Law firm Dongin has recruited Kim Sang-hyun, a former chief of the Jinju branch of the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office, as the firm builds out its capabilities in economic crime and information technology.
Dongin said on the 29th that Kim has joined the firm as a member attorney on its criminal practice team.
Kim built an extensive investigative record during his time as a prosecutor. He served as head of the first criminal division at the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office and head of the second criminal division at the Busan Eastern branch office, handling cases involving defamation, real estate, sexual violence and narcotics.
He specialized in personal data and information technology. In December 2019, he earned the prosecution service's 'Blue Belt' certification in those fields, a tier in its internal system for recognizing specialist expertise. He also earned a master's degree in mathematical and information sciences from the Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology at Seoul National University.
Kim also served as deputy head of the cyber investigation division at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office and as a prosecutor in the foreign affairs division and in the environment portfolio of the fifth criminal division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. On the strength of that work, he received a commendation from the prosecutor general in December 2015 for his contributions to digital and cyber investigations.
"Kim brings broad criminal practice experience, including economic crime investigations, together with expertise in information and IT," a Dongin official said. "We plan to strengthen the capabilities of Dongin's criminal team and expand the scope of our specialized advisory work."
