DAEJEON — Kkumdori, Daejeon's signature character, has been paired with leftover material from banknote production to create the "Money Shower Kkumdori Keyring."
Korea Minting, Security Printing and ID Card Operating Corporation (KOMSCO) said the keyring, a currency-themed novelty item made with banknote byproducts, went on sale for the first time on the 29th through the crowdfunding platform Tumblbug.
The keyring is the first product to come out of a memorandum of understanding signed in January by KOMSCO, the Daejeon Metropolitan Government and the Daejeon Tourism Organization on commercializing currency-themed goods and joint branding using characters from the Kkumssi Family, of which Kkumdori is a member.
The item brings together Kkumdori, a character emblematic of Daejeon, and moneymade, KOMSCO's upcycling brand.
Kkumdori is rendered as a three-dimensional figure in metallic gold and is attached to a lightning-shaped acrylic charm holding byproducts from 50,000-won notes, meant to evoke a shower of money. The charm contains byproducts equivalent to a single 50,000-won note, adding a distinctive and playful touch to the product.
"We worked with a character that represents the region to create a distinctive piece of currency merchandise," KOMSCO CEO Sung Chang-hoon said.
