A woman in her 50s with Chinese citizenship has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing her mother, who was in her 70s, to death during the Chuseok holiday.
The Ansan Sangnok Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said on the 26th that it had arrested the woman, identified only as A, at around 1 a.m. that day on charges of killing a lineal ascendant and was questioning her. A is suspected of wielding a knife at her mother at a low-rise multi-unit home in Sangnok District, Ansan, causing her death. She told an acquaintance about the crime immediately afterward, and the acquaintance reported it to police, leading to her arrest at the scene.
A's mother was taken to a hospital while receiving CPR but later died. A had been living with her mother at the multi-unit home, just the two of them and had drunk a bottle of soju before the crime, according to the investigation. She reportedly told police that she had been sleeping after drinking when her mother came home, and that the killing was unpremeditated, occurring during an argument over issues including her daily habits.
A and her mother were found to be Chinese nationals of Korean descent. Police are questioning A to determine the detailed circumstances of the crime.
