Traffic heading toward Seoul remained heavy on the evening of the 25th, the day of the Chuseok holiday, as vehicles returning to the capital converged on expressways. Congestion on routes leaving Seoul has largely cleared, but heavy traffic toward the capital is expected to persist into the early hours of the following day.
As of 6 p.m. departures from tollgates, estimated travel times to Seoul were six hours and 30 minutes from Busan, six hours and 10 minutes from Ulsan, three hours and 20 minutes from Gangneung, two hours and 10 minutes from Yangyang (arriving in Namyangju), three hours and 30 minutes from Daejeon, five hours and 30 minutes from Gwangju, five hours and 50 minutes from Mokpo (arriving in West Seoul) and five hours and 30 minutes from Daegu.
Congestion toward Seoul continued past its 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. peak and is expected to clear around 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. on the 26th.
On routes out of Seoul, traffic has mostly eased after peaking between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The Korea Expressway Corporation said congestion on those routes should clear around 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Estimated travel times from Seoul to major regional cities were four hours and 50 minutes to Busan, four hours and 30 minutes to Ulsan, two hours and 40 minutes to Gangneung, two hours to Yangyang (departing from Namyangju), two hours and 10 minutes to Daejeon, three hours and 40 minutes to Gwangju, four hours and 10 minutes to Mokpo (departing from West Seoul) and three hours and 50 minutes to Daegu.
