Three teenagers who targeted only unlocked cars in the pre-dawn hours to steal valuables have been caught by police. They were tracked down after using a credit card taken from one of the vehicles.
Incheon Namdong Police Station has booked three teenagers, including a boy identified as A, without detention on charges of aggravated theft and is investigating the case, police said on the 23rd. The three are suspected of taking a credit card and other items from a car parked on a street in Incheon at around 2:30 a.m. on the 19th.
After receiving a report, police traced their movements using the transaction records of the stolen credit card. The investigation found that the suspects had singled out cars that were not locked.
Police brought the three in voluntarily for questioning on the 21st. None of them fell into the category of juveniles aged 10 to under 14, who cannot be criminally punished under South Korean law.
"We are investigating the specific circumstances of the crime," police said, adding that the amount charged to the stolen credit card was small and that all of the stolen items, including the card, had been recovered.
