Four new employees at SK hynix (000660.KS) have been dismissed after drinking alcohol in violation of rules during their orientation training.
The four had recently joined the company and were taking part in training for entry-level technical and administrative staff when they were dismissed for disciplinary reasons over breaches of training rules, according to industry sources and SBS Biz on the 22nd.
The employees came under disciplinary review for drinking during the training period, which was prohibited, among other conduct. Two employees at other SK Group affiliates who were involved in the same incident received pay cuts, according to the reports.
After confirming the rule violations, the company asked those involved to explain the circumstances before finalizing the disciplinary measures. The penalties were handed down after further steps, including giving them an opportunity to correct their conduct.
SK hynix said personnel matters are not disclosed, leaving unclear what the employees drank and how much, where and when the drinking took place, and what other rules were broken.
Online commenters reacted with remarks such as "that was the most expensive drink of their lives" and "they kicked away their own good fortune."
