GOYANG — Goyang in Gyeonggi Province has begun a re-examination of the feasibility of its new city hall project, accelerating efforts to put the plan back on track and move ahead with follow-up administrative procedures.
Researchers from the Local Investment Management and Analysis Center (LOMAC) under the Korea Local Finance Association visited the planned construction site in Jugyo-dong and the current city hall on the 22nd to review conditions for the project and met with Mayor Min Kyung-sun, the city said on the 23rd.
The site visit was arranged to directly verify the status of the project and to examine specific matters needed for the feasibility re-examination. After visiting the Jugyo-dong site and hearing briefings on progress and future plans, the LOMAC researchers toured the main and annex buildings of the current city hall, along with the arts center and gymnasium, focusing on aging facilities, a shortage of space and administrative inefficiency caused by scattered offices.
In the meeting that followed, Min expressed a strong commitment to normalizing the new city hall project without setbacks and asked the researchers for active cooperation so that the re-examination could proceed quickly and objectively.
The city said it will concentrate administrative resources on the process, including prompt submission of the data required for the review. Once the results are released, it plans to move swiftly through follow-up steps such as an investment screening by Gyeonggi Province to rebuild the footing for the project.
"We will provide support so that the feasibility re-examination is conducted thoroughly, fully reflecting the changed conditions of the project and of city finances," a Goyang official said. "We will push ahead with the new city hall without setbacks so that we can resolve the inconvenience residents face because of aging and scattered offices and provide efficient administrative services."
