Trains on Seoul Subway Line 2 are again passing through Ewha Womans University Station without stopping after platform screen doors failed to open following firefighting work to extinguish smoke at the station.
Seoul Metro said inner- and outer-loop trains on Line 2 have been passing through the station without stopping since about 9:18 p.m. on Sept. 22.
Smoke was detected at about 8:10 p.m. in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) room on the station platform. Seoul Metro halted stops by inner- and outer-loop trains at the station from 8:24 p.m. to protect passenger safety.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene completed initial firefighting work, and train service returned to normal at about 9:03 p.m. But after the firefighting work, all of the platform screen doors failed to open, prompting officials to again order trains to pass through without stopping about 15 minutes later.
"After firefighting work for the smoke that broke out earlier on the platform, none of the platform screen doors would open, so we are having trains pass through without stopping," a Seoul Metro official said.
No injuries were reported from the incident.
