
President Lee Jae-myung's job approval rating stood at 43%, according to a poll released on the 1st.
The National Barometer Survey, conducted by Embrain Public, K-Stat Research, Korea Research and Hankook Research among 1,000 adults aged 18 and over from Sept. 28 to Sept. 30, found that 43% said Lee was doing a good job as president, unchanged from the previous survey in the second week of September.
Negative assessments reached 50%, up 2 percentage points from the prior poll. Another 7% said they did not know or declined to answer.
In party support, the Democratic Party of Korea drew 35%, down 4 percentage points from the previous survey, while the People Power Party held steady at 25%. The gap between the two parties narrowed to 10 percentage points.
The Rebuilding Korea Party followed at 3%, the Reform Party at 2% and the Progressive Party at 1%. Those who withheld a preference accounted for 32%.
Asked to assess the 22nd National Assembly, 32% said the Democratic Party was performing well as the ruling party, while 25% said the People Power Party was performing well as the main opposition.
On the Supreme Court chief justice's refusal of the president's request to renominate a Supreme Court justice, 55% said the chief justice should consult with the president again and nominate a different candidate. Another 34% said the president should appoint the candidate nominated by the chief justice.
The survey was conducted through telephone interviews using mobile phone virtual numbers for all respondents. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a response rate of 18.8%.
