President Lee Jae-myung will hold the third public-private review meeting on the government's mega projects on the 29th to assess progress on semiconductors, physical artificial intelligence and AI data centers.
The Blue House said in a press release on the 28th that Lee will preside over the meeting at 3 p.m. on the 29th at the Blue House. It is the third monthly review session chaired by the president and the first since the launch of the Office of the National Strategic Investment Adviser, a dedicated mega-project unit within the presidential office.
After Lee's opening remarks, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Health and Welfare will present plans to improve living conditions in areas tied to the projects. The Ministry of Trade and Industry, the land ministry, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Ministry of National Defense will then report on the status and plans for a semiconductor belt in the southern region.
The trade ministry and the Ministry of Science and ICT will present measures to expand physical AI and AI robots for everyday use, and the science ministry will explain the status of AI data center construction and future plans.
Attendees from the presidential office include the chief of staff, the national security adviser, the national strategic investment adviser and the senior secretaries for economic growth, social affairs and AI future planning. Samsung Electronics and SK will send executives at the president level.
At the second public-private review meeting on the 10th of last month, Lee called for swift implementation, saying the situation required "a blitz rather than just a race for speed." The government at the time decided to push for legislation on a special law on mega districts within the year and to set up dedicated units in both the presidential office and the prime minister's office.
