President Lee Jae-myung departs on the 21st for a trip to the United States to attend the U.N. General Assembly and to Mexico for a state visit.
National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said at a briefing at the Chunchugwan press center on the same day that Lee will travel from the 21st through the 27th. Lee will attend the high-level session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York before making a state visit to Mexico.
Lee will deliver a keynote address at the U.N. General Assembly on the 22nd. In the speech, he plans to lay out directions for U.N. reform aimed at resolving global problems and South Korea's contributions, and to explain a blueprint for peace and coexistence on the Korean Peninsula. He will then meet with the U.N. secretary-general to ask for the organization's attention and cooperation on peace on the peninsula. Wi said separate contacts in various formats with leaders of major countries including the United States and Australia are planned during the period.
The following day, on the 23rd, Lee will attend the Korea Investment Summit 2026, which brings together business and financial figures from South Korea and the United States, where he plans to promote his artificial intelligence policy and vision as well as capital market reforms to global investors.
After completing the U.N. General Assembly schedule, Lee will make a state visit to Mexico at the invitation of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. It is the first state visit to Mexico by a South Korean president in 16 years. Lee will arrive in Mexico City on the evening of the 23rd and begin his official schedule on the 24th, starting with a wreath-laying at the Monument to the Boy Heroes in Chapultepec Park.
He will then attend an official welcoming ceremony at the National Palace, the presidential seat, before holding one-on-one and expanded summit talks with Sheinbaum. After the talks, the two leaders will hold a memorandum of understanding exchange ceremony, a luncheon and a joint press announcement in succession. Lee will also host a dinner meeting with members of the Korean community in Mexico that evening.
On the 25th, he will attend a business forum at the World Trade Center in Mexico City and visit a K-sports event venue. Lee will leave Mexico City on the morning of the 26th to return home.
