Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) said on the 7th that it will offer 30 signature works from the British Museum, the United Kingdom's national museum, through the Samsung Art Store. The Art Store is a subscription service that delivers more than 5,000 works from museums and artists worldwide in 4K resolution on Samsung TVs.
The newly added works are landscape paintings from the golden age of 19th-century British art. "Willy Lott's House" and "Fisherton Mill" by John Constable, a master of English landscape painting, capture the peaceful countryside distinctive to Britain along with the subtle shifts of its ever-changing skies and weather.
Works by Joseph Mallord William Turner, known as an innovator of light and color, including "A Storm (Shipwreck)" and "The Colosseum, Rome," range from dynamic seas lashed by storms to exotic and lyrical cityscapes of Venice, Rome and Zurich.
Samsung TVs pair 4K resolution with anti-glare technology that uses a special surface coating to scatter light across varied angles and directions, allowing viewers to see artworks clearly. The Samsung Art Store works with about 80 museums and galleries worldwide, including the British Museum, the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Tate.
Samsung Electronics opened "Korea: A Journey of 2,000 Years of Creativity" at the British Museum in London on the 30th of last month, and has now expanded its partnership with the museum through this Art Store tie-up. The exhibition is a special showing of the Lee Kun-hee Collection, which introduces the value of Korean culture to the world through cultural and artistic works left by the late Lee Kun-hee, the former Samsung chairman. The opening event was attended by Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee, Leeum Museum of Art Honorary Director Hong Ra-hee, Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin and Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun.
"Through technology, Samsung Electronics is working to make it easier for more Samsung TV users to access world-class works of art," said Lee Gui-ho, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display business.
