Boston Dynamics, the robotics affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, said on the 6th that it has appointed Rohit Prasad, a global technology leader in artificial intelligence, as its new chief executive officer to strengthen its competitiveness in physical AI.
Prasad is a world-renowned AI expert who has led technology development and commercialization in conversational AI, generative AI, multimodal AI and artificial general intelligence.
At Amazon, he played a central role from the earliest days of Alexa's development and later oversaw the company's Alexa and AGI divisions, spearheading development of the Nova family of foundation models. He is credited with extending AI beyond products and services to developer and partner ecosystems.
Before joining Amazon, Prasad spent about 14 years at Raytheon BBN Technologies, where he worked on machine learning research and applied technology development for U.S. government and commercial clients, gaining broad experience spanning basic research through productization and commercialization.
With the appointment, Boston Dynamics plans to combine its robotics expertise with advanced AI capabilities to accelerate the industrial deployment and commercialization of intelligent robots. The company said it will test the potential of advanced AI and robotics technologies across Hyundai Motor (005380) Group's industrial base, including manufacturing, logistics and mobility, and expand synergies.
"Boston Dynamics has differentiated capabilities in realizing physical AI, built on world-class robotics technology," Prasad said. "By converging advanced AI and robotics, we will create meaningful value in the real world and build intelligent systems that will lead a new leap forward in physical AI by expanding the scope of robotics across industries."
Boston Dynamics also plans to tap the academic and technology networks Prasad has built over many years in the Boston area, along with his close relationships there, for recruiting, technology partnerships and global business expansion.
