SP Samhwa, formerly Samhwa Paint Industrial, said on the 30th that it has obtained a patent for a heat-dissipating coating composition for use in glass-to-steel (G2S) building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules.
BIPV modules combine solar power generation with building exterior materials. According to the company, G2S modules made of glass and steel sheets offer greater structural stability than conventional glass-to-backsheet designs, but heat tends to build up behind the steel sheet, raising module temperatures.
The patented technology applies the heat-dissipating coating to the rear of the steel sheet to curb that temperature rise. The company expects the approach to reduce the loss in power generation efficiency that accompanies higher temperatures.
SP Samhwa developed the technology to target a BIPV market expanding on the back of carbon neutrality policies and the wider mandate for zero-energy buildings (ZEB). The company has completed performance verification at the laboratory stage and plans to set a commercialization timeline based on the results of field demonstration tests.
