NAVER Pay and Kakao Pay are running a range of discount and rewards promotions for the Chuseok holiday, covering everything from highway rest stops on the drive home to overseas travel. The benefits vary depending on the payment method used.
NAVER Pay (Npay) is offering 50% of the payment amount back in Npay points at nine highway rest stops nationwide through the 30th, according to financial industry sources on the 23rd. The offer applies to payments of 10,000 won or more made with Npay money or points at participating rest stops including Gongju, Nongong, Yangpyeong, Gwangju and Ansan.
Users must pay through Samsung Pay or QR payment within the NAVER Pay app, and some branded stores inside the rest stops are excluded. There is no limit on how many times the reward can be earned, but each user can receive up to 100,000 points. Drivers planning to stop at rest areas during the Chuseok travel rush should check their payment method in advance.
NAVER Pay is also running a promotion for travelers heading abroad. Using Npay QR payment overseas brings destination-specific discounts in Japan, China, Hong Kong and Macau. Through a Chuseok "Point Month" event, users can receive up to 5,000 won in Npay points simply by taking part, without having to buy anything.
Kakao Pay has prepared benefits aimed at the extended autumn holiday stretch that runs from Chuseok through National Foundation Day and Hangeul Day. Through Oct. 30, users making their first overseas payment with Kakao Pay in Japan, China, Hong Kong or Macau will receive a coupon for 50% off the payment amount, up to 10,000 won. The coupon can be applied when paying with Kakao Pay and is issued daily on a first-come, first-served basis.
Minimum payment amounts, discount and rewards caps and eligible merchants differ by promotion, however, and some benefits may end once a set number of users claim them, so conditions should be checked before paying.
