
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (009540.KS), the shipbuilding intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai (267250.KS), said on the 22nd that it had signed a contract with a European shipping company to build two roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessels for a combined 336.2 billion won ($242 million).
The vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (329180.KS) and delivered by the second half of 2029.
RORO ships are a type of cargo vessel designed so that wheeled cargo such as vehicles and trailers can drive on and off the ship under their own power via ramps.
With the latest deal, HD Korea Shipbuilding's cumulative orders this year rose to 169 vessels worth $18.71 billion. That represents 80.3% of its annual order target of $23.31 billion, and exceeds its full-year total for last year of $18.55 billion in just nine months.
By vessel type, the orders comprise 17 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 30 container ships, 52 carriers for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ammonia and liquefied carbon dioxide, 11 crude oil tankers, 53 petrochemical product carriers, two pure car and truck carriers (PCTC), two RORO vessels and two other vessels.
