Hanjin (002320.KS) said on the 11th that it has built an artificial intelligence system called AI Safety Guardian that analyzes CCTV footage at logistics sites in real time to detect hazards.
The system flags risky behavior such as crossing conveyor belts without authorization, vehicles moving in violation of safety rules, illegal parking in pedestrian walkways and workers not wearing hard hats. When it detects a hazard, the system immediately issues warnings on site through flashing lights and voice alerts, and sends text messages to safety managers to speed up their response.
Hanjin is expanding the system with a focus on small parcel terminals in outlying areas, where safety management resources are relatively limited. After first installing it at about 10 terminals in the greater Seoul area in late July, the company widened the rollout to outlying regions nationwide, including Chungcheong and Gangwon, and has now completed installation at about 20 terminals. Terminals using the system have seen major safety violations fall about 60% from previous levels.
Hanjin is also applying an AI-based load forecasting system at its Daejeon mega-hub terminal. The company operates an AI model that reads volume images to analyze cargo photographs, as well as a generative AI customer service chatbot named Hanjinie.
"We will continue to strengthen our use of advanced technologies such as AI and big data across everything from safety management to our overall operating processes," a Hanjin official said.
